Beyond the Diagnosis… A Space for Women’s Health, Motherhood & Kafala

Hosted by Yalla Kafala, Beyond the Diagnosis is an intimate Mother’s Day gathering created to honor the many dimensions of women’s health, healing, and motherhood.

Bringing together more than 50 women from across the Arab and Muslim communities in the San Francisco Bay Area, including mothers, professionals, health advocates, and community leaders. The event offers an afternoon centered on meaningful conversations, genuine connection, and shared experiences.

The gathering explores the many layers of women’s health, beginning with dental wellness and its connection to overall wellbeing, moving through the realities of endometriosis and fertility journeys, and culminating in conversations about motherhood, family, and Kafala.

For many women navigating infertility, pregnancy, menopause, chronic illness, or complex health experiences, the question of “what comes after the diagnosis?” often remains unspoken, particularly within our communities. Beyond the Diagnosis was created to hold space for those conversations, shifting the narrative from silence to openness, and from loss to legacy.

A Conversation Led by Inspiring Women

At the heart of the event is a moderated fireside conversation featuring three women whose journeys reflect resilience, advocacy, and transformation:

  • Dr. Nashwa Aziz ElRashidy, co-owner of The Diablo Dental Group, specializing in biological dentistry and the connection between oral and whole-body health.

  • Dr. Mona Orady, founder of The Orady Women’s Clinic and a leading specialist in endometriosis and fertility-preserving surgery.

  • Rasha Mekky, whose personal infertility journey led her to motherhood through Kafala and inspired a movement that has helped thousands of children in Egypt find loving homes through the Islamic guardianship framework.

Together, they explore the many paths a woman’s life can take from body, to heart, to home.

More Than a Panel Discussion

Designed as a thoughtfully curated experience, the event also includes:

  • A build-your-own flower bloom bar

  • Coffee, matcha and brunch bites

  • An interactive myth-busting Q&A on women’s health and Kafala

  • Curated gift bags for every guest

  • A welcoming space for honest conversations, support, and community

Every Woman’s Story Deserves to Be Heard

At its core, Beyond the Diagnosis celebrates the belief that every woman’s journey, with all its challenges, transitions, grief, healing, and forms of motherhood deserves to be acknowledged, respected, and honored within a safe and compassionate space.

For Yalla Kafala, hosting Beyond the Diagnosis was more than simply organizing an event; it was an extension of our mission to support women, honor the many forms of motherhood, and create space for emotionally honest conversations around the diverse journeys women experience throughout their lives.

Including Kafala within discussions surrounding women’s health and personal journeys helps reshape how society understands Kafala, not merely as an alternative path to parenthood, but as a deeply human experience rooted in love, care, belonging, and connection.

The gathering created an important opportunity for the voices and experiences of kafala mothers to reach new communities, allowing Kafala stories to become part of a broader conversation about women, health, healing, and family. This reflects Yalla Kafala’s vision of building a more compassionate, informed, and supportive society for both kafala children and kafala families alike.
