A Cultural Salon at AUC… A New Step Toward Raising Awareness About Kafala

A Cultural Salon at AUC… A New Step Toward Raising Awareness About Kafala

As part of our ongoing efforts to spread awareness about Kafala among young people, Yalla Kafala Organization organized a cultural salon at The American University in Cairo (AUC), attended by a large number of students interested in advocacy, social causes, and community work.

During the session, a lecture was presented covering:

- The concept and importance of Kafala

- The role of Yalla Kafala Organization in supporting the Kafala system

- The stages of the Kafala journey

- The challenges faced by Kafala families

- The importance of community awareness in supporting children without parental care

The goal was to give students a deeper and more realistic understanding of Kafala, away from stereotypes and common misconceptions, while encouraging open discussion around one of the most important social issues affecting children and families in Egypt.

Real Stories from Within the System

One of the most impactful parts of the salon was hearing real stories from people directly connected to the Kafala journey, including YK team members:

- Fadia Yaqoub, who shared her personal experience and journey as a Kafala mother

- Faten Waleed, one of the first young women in Egypt to publicly share her experience of joining a Kafala family as an adult after spending years without parental care.

Their stories created a strong emotional connection with students and opened space for honest conversations, understanding, and meaningful engagement.

An Important Step Inside Universities

Hosting the cultural salon at AUC marked an important step toward raising awareness about Kafala inside major universities and reaching students already engaged in advocacy and social impact work.

The event also helped to:

- Encourage more students to support the cause

- Inspire young people to volunteer with Yalla Kafala Organization

- Create meaningful conversations around the rights of children without parental care and the importance of supporting Kafala families

The strong attendance and engagement from students reflected a genuine willingness among young people to learn, participate, and create change.

At Yalla Kafala Organization, we believe that building awareness inside universities is an essential step toward creating a more supportive, informed, and inclusive society for Kafala children and Kafala families alike.
